Description

The classic copper mug, and the reason a Moscow mule tastes better than the same drink in a highball. Copper pulls heat out of the liquid fast, so the cup frosts within moments of the ice hitting it and the first sip arrives properly cold. At 301 to 400ml it holds a standard mule with ice and a lime wedge without threatening to spill.

The body is pure copper with a warm, slightly burnished exterior that darkens gently with age into a patina, or can be brought back to a bright shine with a lemon-and-salt rub whenever you prefer it new-looking. The handle is riveted rather than glued, and the rim is rolled smooth. Hand wash only in warm water, dry immediately, and keep it out of the dishwasher, where detergent will strip the finish. Is this solid copper or plated?

Solid copper, which is what makes the chilling effect work. Plated mugs cannot conduct the same way.

Why does it frost so fast?

Copper is one of the most conductive metals in a kitchen. It moves the cold from the drink to the surface almost immediately, which is why the mug fogs in seconds.

Will it change colour over time?

It will develop a warm patina with use. That is normal for copper and many people prefer it. A little lemon and salt brings the shine straight back.

Can I use it for other drinks?
